Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Extended Edition of the film adds a half an hour of mostly useful and entertaining material that serves to make the film even stronger than its Oscar-nominated theatrical cut. The Blu-ray boasts excellent picture and audio along with a thorough, nearly exhaustive set of supplements. It’s too bad this release doesn’t feature an option to watch the the

2. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray] (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Two Towers doesn’t feel as engrossing as its predecessor, but that’s almost inevitable given its spot as the middle chapter of a trilogy. It’s still an excellent movie that continues the tale well. The Blu-ray adds 44 minutes of mostly useful and entertaining material that serves to make the film even stronger than its Oscar-nominated theatrical cut.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Whether you spring for the “Collector’s Gift Set” or just stick with the standard four-DVD version, you definitely need to pick up the Special Extended Edition of The Two Towers. 5. Silent Hill: Collector's Edition [Blu-Ray] (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With a dark, moody tone, Silent Hill came with some potential to offer an unsettling horror movie. Unfortunately, the lack of coherent plot or compelling situations means that it winds up as a slow, boring dud. Starring Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean. Shout, $27.99, 7/9/2019.

6. The Hitcher (2007)

7. GoldenEye: Ultimate Edition (1995)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Should folks who already own the prior release pursue this Ultimate Edition? Yes, though don’t expect it to blow away the prior DVD. Actually, it demonstrates a noticeable improvement in terms of picture quality, and it throws in some good new extras as well. It just suffers from a few more flaws than I’d like. Starring Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean. MGM, $8

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though it surpasses its predecessor, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island never becomes better than average. It throws some decent action and adventure at us but lacks the inspiration to rise to a higher level. The Blu-ray boasts excellent picture and audio as well as a few decent supplements. You can do worse in terms of family entertainment, but I can’t gi

10. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring [Blu-Ray] (2001)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Fans had high expectations for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, and the film seems to match them. As a neophyte to the realm, I feel the movie has some minor flaws, but overall it comes across quite well, and it offers an exciting and rich experience. The Blu-ray offers good – though slightly inconsistent picture – along with mostly ter
